Born in Batala, India as the youngest sibling in a family of six brothers and three sisters.

Enters the Faculty of Arts, Dayal Singh College, Lahore.
Bachelor of Arts, Government College, Lahore.
Starts radio broadcast work with All India Radio, Delhi.
Migrates to Pakistan upon Independence and joins the Pakistan Broadcasting Corporation.
Journeys to the United Kingdom to enrol at Lincoln's Inn for his Barrister-at-Law degree. Concurrently works for the BBC, London.
Begins practice in the Chambers of Mr. D. N. Pritt, London, who later appears for Maulvi Tameez-ud-Din in the case challenging the dissolution of the Constituent Assembly by the then Governor General of Pakistan on 24 October 1954 (PLD 1955 Sindh 96).
Returns to Pakistan after completion of the Barrister-at-Law degree and begins law practice in Lahore, in the Chambers of Mr. Manzoor Qadir.
Presents literary and academic papers at various international forums and conferences. Serves as Vice President of FILLM - the International Federation of Modern Languages and Literatures - and organises an International Conference of the FILLM at Islamabad and Lahore in 1969.
Remains an active member of the Halqa-e-Arbab-e-Zauq, Lahore, where he reads his various literary works - short stories, poetry, and book reviews. Many of these writings appear in literary publications over the years; publication of a complete collection of all his writings is currently in progress.
Conducts the trial of Allama Mashriqi for the murder of Dr. Khan Sahib, former Chief Minister of NWFP. Reported at PLD 1960 Lahore 129 - Atta Muhammad v. The State.
Appears throughout the Yousaf Renate case - Syed Ali Nawaz Gardezi v. Lt. Col. Muhammad Yousaf - at both trial and appellate stages. Reported at PLD 1963 SC 51.
Appears for the petitioners in the Supreme Court of Pakistan in Asma Jilani v. Federation of Pakistan, in which General Yahya Khan's proclamation of Martial Law is held to be illegal. Reported at PLD 1972 SC 139.
Appears as Special Public Prosecutor in the trial of Mr. Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, former Prime Minister of Pakistan, relating to the murder of Nawab Ahmed Khan Kasuri. Conducted before a Full Bench of five judges of the Lahore High Court in its original side, and represents the State on appeal and review before the Supreme Court of Pakistan.
Appears for the petitioners before a Full Bench of the Lahore High Court in the Qisas and Diyat Ordinance case - Muhammad Ashraf v. The State, reported at PLD 1991 Lahore 347.
Appears for Ch. Shujaat Hussain and his family in political-rivalry proceedings, securing bail from the Supreme Court of Pakistan. Reported at 1995 SCMR 1249.
Represents Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed in the Kalashnikov case and the subsequent Supreme Court petition. Reported at PLD 1996 SC 168 - Sh. Rasheed Ahmed v. The State.
Appears for Mr. Muhammad Rafiq Tarar before a Full Bench of the Lahore High Court in the writ petition challenging the rejection of his nomination papers for the office of President of Pakistan. Reported at PLD 1998 Lahore 461.
Defends Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif, former Prime Minister of Pakistan, in the plane-hijacking case following General Pervez Musharraf's intervention. Reported at PLD 2002 Karachi 152.
Passes away in Lahore, bringing a close to a life given, in equal measure, to law and to letters.
